EurOpinions: free one-day citizenship and Europe events for young people

LSN is currently delivering a series of ‘EurOpinions’ events, on behalf of the European Parliament UK Office, designed to engage young people (aged 16-25) in European politics.

The events offer young people the opportunity to meet MEPs, learn more about European democratic structures and issues and put forward, explore and develop their points of view in a lively and engaging way.

Based on the theme of citizenship and Europe, the events aim to:

  • raise awareness of how Europe is governed (in particular the role and powers of the European Parliament) and some of the main issues affecting the European Union today
  • encourage young people to think about the sort of Europe they want to be part of and what action we need to take to achieve this
  • provide a platform for the views of young people on European issues, such as the environment, migration, poverty, international security
  • provide an opportunity for young people to hear the views of elected Members of the European Parliament and exchange views with them

The final event in this year’s series is taking place in Newcastle on 10 July 2009 – see www.lsneducation.org.uk/CITIZENSHIP/EUROPINIONS/ for more information.
