LSN - Functional Skills
Functional skills will equip young people with the skills, competences and qualifications that employers want. They open doors to learning, to life and to work. These skills are valued by employers and further education and are a platform on which to build other employability skills. Better functional skills can mean a better future – as learners or as employees. Functional skills is one of the fastest developing areas in education and training. By 2010 it will be a fundamental part of the education and training landscape and all practitioners and managers will need to understand the opportunities and challenges it presents.
Our experience
LSN has extensive experience in functional skills as we have been involved in their developments since their launch in 2006. Our team of advisers and consultants has a well respected record in the skills field, having led on support for functional skills, key skills, skills for life, E2E, and now FLT, and citizenship. Our core team and associates have unequalled expertise in helping, managers and practitioners in Colleges, schools, Work Based Learning, the secure estate and the voluntary sector to implement the government’s skills agenda.
Events and supporting resources
LSN ran three very successful national events in July which were well attended and scored highly in evaluation scores. A number of delegates expressed an interest in obtaining the materials used at these events and customising them for use in their own centres. All materials are now being sent free of charge on a memory stick to delegates who attended one of the national events and can be purchased for £25 by non-delegates.
