Mobile devices in the classroom
Overview
This workshop explores tools that can be used in the classroom for the delivery
and management of learning; such as interactive whiteboards, voting systems and
Bluetooth, mobile and multimedia devices. It considers how they can be used to
meet a range of learner needs and how they can blend with traditional delivery.
Key benefits
Delegates attending this workshop will:
- Understand how and why the use of classroom tools can enhance learning
- Address learner needs and their learning experience
- Understand how to consider the advantages and disadvantages of using the
classroom tools and identify accessibility, health and safety and security
requirements when using the tools
- Reflect on their own experience by talking to other participants and sharing
tips, techniques and practice.
How does it work?
Delegates will have an opportunity to participate in content creation, as well
as adopting a reflective approach to their own experience and that of other
delegates.
- Following a presentation about various underpinning theories, there will be an
opportunity to experience various classroom tools and a discussion to discover
their potential. Delegates will be asked to consider their identified group of
learners and critically review whether there are specific skills required to
engage with the tools
- A hands-on activity exploring more classroom tools followed by a session where
delegates will produce a learning activity or activities for their group of
learners
- A discussion will tease out the advantages and disadvantages of using the tools
and whether any accessibility issues have been raised. Delegates will also
produce evaluation criteria for learners to provide feedback
