Moodle for mobile

Overview

This workshop gives delegates an understanding of how to use Moodle effectively for delivery of teaching and learning as well as how to extend the possibilities through the use of mobile technologies. It provides an opportunity to review the common components of a typical Moodle installation and how simple changes and additions can facilitate more effective and active learning. Delegates will also learn how to integrate resources from MoleSHARE and MoleTV and contribute examples of improved use of Moodle back to both sites.

Key benefits

Delegates attending this workshop will:

  • Gain an understanding of how Moodle can be effectively used to deliver online learning and extended with mobile technologies
  • Develop a working knowledge of the ‘Resources’ and ‘Activities’ that form part of the Moodle environment and which of these are realistic and effective options for use via mobile devices
  • Construct an online learning session and/or improve existing courses utilising the features and techniques examined
Share material with colleagues via the MoLeSHARE and MoLeTV sites

How does it work?

Delegates will have an opportunity to explore the Moodle environment, as well as adopt a reflective approach to their own experience and that of other delegates.

  • Encouraging and facilitating active learning with Moodle: delegates will explore different ways of encouraging participation and collaboration and how this might effect the mode of delivery
  • Examining Moodle ‘Resources’ and ‘Activities’: looking at the standard Activities that are available within Moodle and how they can be used and adapted to deliver both online learning and encourage participation via mobile technologies
  • Extending moodle through additional modules and techniques: including feedback and podcasting modules as well as options for embedding RSS feeds and other Web 2.0 services
  • Sharing via MoLeSHARE and MoLeTV: a brief introduction to the MoLeSHARE and MoLeTV sites and how delegates can use these resources in their own Moodle courses as well as upload the resources they have created for use by colleagues

Who should attend?

Mainly focused on practitioners, but also relevant for managers wishing to learn about the possibilities of extending communication with learners
