Programmes & projects
Our programmes support learning providers - their leaders, managers, teachers and trainers, to meet the challenges they face as our sector grows and develops. Funded by the QIA, DCSF and LSC amongst others, each programme is designed to support a particular priority.
Our suite of programmes include:
Diploma support programme
From autumn 2008, with partners, the Learning and Skills Network will provide the DSP to help schools plan, develop and implement the most significant educational reforms for many years. LSN’s contribution to the partnership will include high quality bespoke training for the first ten lines of the diplomas and include a Vocational Learning Strand to carry on the work of the VLSP. It will consist of a generic programme, mapped against the six TDA themes, available to all consortia which have been successful in Gateway 2 submissions, consortia who are working towards delivery as well as schools and colleges offering the applied GCSEs and A levels
Triple Science Support Programme
LSN is delighted to introduce the Triple Science Support Programme which is designed to make Triple Science GCSEs more widely available to pupils in English maintained schools. It will consist of a generic programme available to all schools - supplemented by a more intense offer of support for targeted schools. This approach will help prepare schools for the forthcoming changes as well as allocating bespoke resources to those that can benefit most. We have also joined forces with the Science Learning Centres, Institute of Physics, Institute of Biology and Royal Society of Chemistry to provide a targeted programme of support.
Starting out
Starting Out is a unique pilot programme we’ve created at LSN. It offers mentoring and support for Maths and Science teachers who are either in training or are in the first two years of their career. If you’re an early-career teacher, this programme is specifically designed to give you more confidence in applying your knowledge and skills.
Quality Champions Accreditation Programme
The Quality Champions Accreditation Programme (QCAP) is an innovative programme from the Learning and Skills Improvement Service (LSIS), delivered by the Learning and Skills Network (LSN) to identify, develop and accredit the leaders in quality improvement across the post-16 education and training sector. The programme is accredited by the Institute for Leadership and Management (ILM), at levels 5 and 7 of the Qualifications Credit Framework.
Make a Difference Programme
Our Make a Difference Programme supports Further Education providers in recruiting experienced and motivated graduate-calibre individuals for management roles within Further Education and training and skills providers.
Post-16 Citizenship Support Programme
Citizenship education gives young people the knowledge, skills and understanding to play an effective role in society at local, national and international levels. It helps them to become informed, thoughtful and responsible citizens who are aware of their rights and duties. It encourages young people to play an active part in the life of their learning organisations, neighbourhoods, communities and the wider world. The Post-16 Citizenship Support Programme is run by the Learning and Skills Network on behalf of the Quality Improvement Agency. The support programme offers free advice, materials and training to organisations wishing to deliver post-16 citizenship to their learners.
Foundation Learning Tier
The Learning and Skills Council and Qualifications and Curriculum Authority are leading the Foundation Learning Tier (FLT) programme of work that will provide an improved learning experience for 14 – 19 year old and adult learners at Entry level and level 1. The FLT will help more people achieve and progress through work and life.
